TELLSI Announces New Branch Open to Expand its Academic Activities in Yazd Province
In order to develop and advance the science of teaching English language and literature and to improve the quality of specialist forces as well as the educational and research affairs in the concerned fields, Teaching English Language and Literature Society of Iran (TELLSI) (Yazd Branch) was established in December, 2016, aiming to further expand TELLSI academic activities in this part of the country. Dr. Hamid Allami, the president of Teaching English Language and Literature Society of Iran (Yazd Branch) announced its opening in 2016. He acknowledged that given the expansion purposes of the society in order to welcome researchers engaged in the related fields of English language, both at the university levels and beyond, the need for establishing new branches of this society in the country's provinces seemed to be indispensable. This branch was founded by the English Department of Yazd University and aimed to involve all other universities and related institutes in the province. Dr. Allami added that this new branch opened in Yazd was the fourth branch of this society after Kurdistan, Golestan, and Khorasan Razavi provinces, all of which had been established to pursue the society's goals. Faculty member of English Department at Yazd University said, Teaching English Language and Literature Society of Iran has held 15 international conferences with the presence of domestic and foreign researchers in various cities of Iran, including the city of Yazd (2009). The feedback from these conferences had always been to promote the scientific level of the researchers, encouraging them to conduct educational and research work. He confirmed publication of the scientific-research (Elmi-pazhooheshi) Journal ‘TEL’ as one of precious products of TELLSI society.
CALL Workshop Series Held in TELLSI (Yazd Branch)
Dr. Seyedeh Elham Elhambakhsh, the executive chair of this branch in Yazd, further reported: “The branch's efforts in the province so far have resulted in significant work in pursuit of the goals of TELLSI Society. In addition to various attempts to further inform the enthusiastic researchers in Yazd province to join and contribute to the growth of the society, a recent specialized series of workshops on ‘Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)’ were held at Yazd University on January, 25, 2018 (Bahman, 19, 1396), from 8 a.m. to 14:30 p.m., which primarily focused on the methods of using the latest technology tools in language learning and teaching.”
She added that “TELLSI (Yazd Branch) in collaboration with the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Yazd University organized these specialized CALL workshop series in the Main Hall at Adl Building at Yazd University.”
Dr. Elhambakhsh announced that these three specialized CALL workshops included discussions on: 1- Language teaching and learning in the 21st century; 2- The most recent opportunities for language learning using mobile phones (mobile-assisted language teaching/learning); and 3- Using the extensive potentials of Web 2.0 in language education. She added that participants from different fields of English language education, English language and literature, Arabic language and literature, and teaching Persian language to nonnative speakers of Persian from different universities across the country were present in these extremely engaging workshops.
The branch in Yazd is proud to announce some other unique upcoming events to be organized and held in the world City of Yazd in the near future and is looking forward to hosting all the respected members of the society across the country in such exciting academic events.
